BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The Broward Cultural Division and the Foundation Center invite artists, arts organizations, and the cultural community to two free programs on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. The first workshop, Grantseeking Basics for Individuals in the Arts, will be held at 10:00 am. This workshop will show artists how to identify funders in the arts. Introduction to the Fundraising Directory Online for Arts Organizations, the second session, teaches the basics of searching the Foundation Center’s database of more than 78,000 grantmakers, and will be held at 2:00 pm on the same day. Luz Rodriguez, training coordinator with the Foundation Center in New York, will present the morning session; and Greg Sidberry, reference outreach instructional librarian, the afternoon program.
Established in 1956, and supported by more than 600 foundations today, the Foundation Center is the nation’s leading authority on organized philanthropy, connecting nonprofits and the grantmakers by supporting them with tools and information they can trust. The Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. grantmakers and their grants, and conducts research on trends in foundation growth and giving. It also operates research, education, and training programs—many of which are free—designed to advance philanthropy at every level.
Nova Southeastern’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center serves as a Cooperating Collection for the Foundation Center and provides a wide range of services to help those involved in preparing grants and soliciting funds from foundations. Cooperating Collections are free, funding information centers in libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit resource centers that provide a core collection of Foundation Center publications and a variety of supplementary materials and services in areas useful to grant seekers.
There is no fee for the programs; hourly parking is available ($1/hour) next to the Alvin Sherman Library (see map attached or visit www.nova.edu/library/about/mapdir.html).
