Individual Artists and Not-for Profit Cultural Organizations; Each Offered in TWO separate sessions on January 7th and 8th, 2008

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Broward County Commission’s Cultural Division invites interested participants from the community to a Mini-Grant Program grant application workshop offered TWICE on Monday, January 7, 2008, for Individual Artists; and TWICE on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 for Broward County not-for-profit cultural organizations. They will be held in the Broward County Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. The workshops will be offered at 11:00 a.m. and AGAIN at 6:00 p.m. on both days.

The purpose of the Mini-Grant Program is to assist eligible Broward County not-for-profit cultural organizations (primary mission is cultural) with annual operating revenues of less than $100,000 and Broward-based practicing professional artists to fund small cultural projects for which applicants have not received grant monies through any other Cultural Division program. The project must be an exhibition, a performance, or other arts activity, that occurs in Broward County. These sessions are specifically geared toward the Mini-grant applicant, and the Mini-grant guidelines.

Mini-Grant awards for Broward County not-for-profit organizations are up to $5,000 per award, on a funds-available basis. An eligible cultural organization may apply for up to three Mini-Grants during the County’s fiscal year. Total Mini-Grant funding to any organization may not exceed $10,000 annually. Recent examples of past funded organizations include: Jubilee Dance Theatre, South Florida Musical Guild and The Women’s Theatre Project.

Individual Artist applicants may apply for up to $2,000 per award on a funds available basis, and may apply for one (1) Mini-Grant per fiscal year and shall not receive in excess of $2,000 in Mini-Grant funding during any County fiscal year. Artist Nilda Comas used her mini-grant to orchestrate the workshop A Sculpture for Children and Suzanne Scherer curated an exhibit of her work at the Coral Springs Museum of Art.
