BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Broward County Commission’s Cultural Division invites interested participants from the community to a Mini-Grant Program workshop offered TWICE on Monday, May 4, 2009 for Broward-based individual artists in the Broward County Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. The workshops will be offered at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Bienes Conference Room. The purpose of the Mini-Grant Program is to assist eligible Broward-based practicing professional artists to fund small but complete cultural projects in Broward County for which applicants have not received grant monies through any other Cultural Division program. The project must be an exhibition, a performance, or other arts activity. Musician Myrna Meeroff will use her mini-grant award to orchestrate an interactive version of Bizet’s Carmen, and artist Mauricio Ferrer curated an exhibit of his work, Body.
Individual Broward-based practicing professional artists, eighteen (18) years or older, residing in Broward County, who have lived continuously in Broward County for the immediate twelve consecutive months prior to the filing date of application, may apply. The program supports eligible artists who have created a recognized body of original works of art within an artistic discipline over a sustained period of time, and pursue this work as a means of livelihood and/ or a way to achieve the highest level of professional recognition.
Broward-based artists should demonstrate a history of professional artistic work during the past year, and the ability to create a strong artistic project and deliver the project at a public venue. Funds will be available on a non-matching basis for the use of the award recipient to support a project. An individual Broward-based artist may apply for up to $2,000 per award on a funds available basis. An individual artist may apply for one (1) Mini-Grant per fiscal year and shall not receive in excess of $2,000 in Mini-Grant funding during any County fiscal year.
The next Mini-Grant Program application deadline is June 1, 2009 for projects implemented between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2009. There is no fee for the workshops. Registration for these workshops is available online; go to www.broward.org/arts and click on “Workshops.” For more information, please call Adriane Clarke, grants specialist, 954-357-7530, E-mail: aclarke@broward.org |
