BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Broward County Commission’s Cultural Division invites all professional artists to respond to a South Florida Call to Artists seeking to commission a site-specific artwork to enhance and celebrate the new Hispanic Cultural and Educational Center. The Call to Artists is open to all professional artists residing in South Florida (Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Martin and Monroe counties). The deadline is January 5, 2007 at 5:00 pm.
The new, 15,000 square foot Hispanic Cultural and Educational Center will be a renovation of the existing third floor of the Main Library located on 100 South Andrews Avenue. It is located across from the Broward County Government Center in the heart of the downtown Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District. This artwork is intended to represent the Latin American Heritage. The Hispanic Cultural and Educational Center will focus on the history and diverse media of the Latin American heritage in the Spanish and Portuguese languages.
The Cultural Division’s Public Art and Design Program will manage the application process, and an Artist Selection Panel will review the applications. The Panel includes a member of the Public Art and Design Committee, arts professionals, and agency and community representatives.
