Multi-media Artist Cheryl Foster will visit on September 17, 2008 at Roosevelt Gardens park in Fort Lauderdale

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art and Design Program invite members of the community to attend a community meeting to share ideas for the artwork commissioned at the Edgar P. Mills Success Center. The meeting will be held on September 17, 2008, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at the Roosevelt Gardens Park, 2841 11th St. in Fort Lauderdale.

Multi-media artist Cheryl Foster has been commissioned to create a permanent, original, and innovative outdoor artwork for the exterior of the new Edgar P. Mills Family Success Center. It is intended that the artwork will help to create a sense of place and enhance the visual appeal of the Family Success Center.

Cheryl Foster was born in Washington, D.C. and is a graduate of Howard University. Specializing in large scale public art, Foster works nationally with art councils, architects developers and individuals, to design, fabricate and install imaginative projects. Whether working with a scope from sensitive portraiture in stained glass or abstract tile mosaic, LED illuminated water jet cut metal structures, or realistic sculptures. The “vision” dictates its medium,” says Foster.

The artist is collaborating with a design team including: Seawood Builders / IBI Group; the Spinnaker Group (LEED AP), JALRW, Enhanced Commissioning Agent and Singer Architects; representatives of the Broward County Human Services Department and Construction Management; and community groups, to provide artwork(s) that serve to advance the identity, mission, and importance of health and human services, housing and community development to the citizens of Broward County.

The artist is interested in sharing and soliciting feedback from the residents of Fort Lauderdale.

With more than 20 years of experience, Foster’s work encompasses a variety of themes based on her client’s dreams and needs. Her most recent projects include four public art panels installed at the newly constructed National Harbor in Maryland, the largest commercial development taking place on the east coast and the Edgar P. Mills Family Success Center.
